Registration Resources

Planning for making an initial application for Registration involves establishing a guidance and support process by a Registered Hospital Play Specialist (HPS) and engaging in observations and reflective discussions. There is value within these discussions to consider the planning and organisation required so that the applicant’s clinical practice portfolio illustrates their professional qualities and practices. Within the resource section guidance sheets, exemplars, templates for PD evidence and HPSRC assessment framework resources are provided.

Maintaining Registration through Section 2.0 requires planning, relevant to an individual’s role, and ongoing professional development. The Professional Development Record and evidence submitted for assessment by the HPSRC must meet the guidelines outlined in the Registration Handbook Appendix E. and be verified by a third person. Exemplars, guidance sheets and evidence templates and the Renewal of Registration assessment framework have been developed to assist NZHPSReg in the planning and documentation required.

The Registration resources developed are in addition to guidance within the Registration Handbook and cover four types of resources relating to Registration processes:

HPSRC ASSESSMENT FRAMEWORKS

The HPSRC have placed four assessment frameworks and encourage HPS to use these as a self-assessment tool prior to submitting their initial application for Registration. Three relate to self-assessment of the clinical practice portfolio required within Section 1.0 Initial Registration application.  There is an assessment framework for the Renewal of Registration Section 2.0.

THE GUIDANCE SHEETS
- Let's talk about...

Within the topics covered, a number provide further information on the processes involved within an initial application for Registration and writing up of clinical practice.
Hospital Play Specialists with NZHPSReg could find the guidance sheets helpful to strengthen their renewal of Registration applications or use when providing guidance and support to developing HPS working towards professional Registration.
 * Please note: The Guidance Sheet HPSRCG003 'Let's talk about... professional development hours' is being updated.
In the interim, current information on evidence required for professional development hours and persons who may verify Professional Development Records is available in the HPS Registration Handbook ( version 2023 within Appendix E)  available in Registration Process page.

The HPSRC November 2023  'UPDATE' publication provides information on changes in evidence required for Registration professional development hours and verification of PD Records.

TEMPLATES FOR EVIDENCE OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT HOURS

These templates provide examples of how HPS may wish to record evidence supporting the PD hours submitted for Registration. These forms are not a requirement but can be downloaded and used if required. There is considerable information in Appendix E of the Registration Handbook on what other evidence may be submitted.
