Registration FAQ

Kia Ora - Welcome
The Hospital Play Specialist Registration Council ( HPSRC)  welcomes your interest in professional accountability within the Hospital Play Specialist (HPS) profession. While information to some of the most frequent questions on Registration has been provided below please make contact with the HPSRC if further information on Registration is required.
  • ​How can I contact the Hospital Play Specialist Registration Council (HPSRC)?
The best way to get hold of the HPSRC is by email at: hpsreg@gmail.com.  Please allow a potential three days wait time for a response as the HPSRC has no designated office. This Gmail address is cleared a minimum of three times per week.

  • ​What are the dates for the submitting an application for Registration/ renewal of Registration?
:The Registration Council meets for three assessment meetings annual. The close off dates for application are:
5th March;  5th July;  5th November
​All application must now be sent as PDF documents with the name of the individual and the category of Registration placed in the subject line of the email.

  • ​What qualifications are required for Hospital Play Specialist Registration?
Full details of the qualification requirements for professional Hospital Play Specialist Registration are provided within the HPSRC Registration Handbook Section 1.5. This document can be downloaded within the Registration Process section
  • ​Where can I find information on individuals who hold New Zealand Hospital Play Specialist Registration ( NZHPSReg)?
​The HPSRC and the Hospital Play Specialist’s professional body hold a Register of the status of all individuals who have achieved professional Registration.  Please visit out NZHPSReg Directory for a full list.  For more information contact us directly at ​hpsreg@gmail.com
  • ​Is there a Code of Ethics and a process for managing complaints?
The Hospital Play Specialist Association Code of Ethics is within the Official Documents of the Association.  Any complaints made to the HPS Association Executive or to the HPSRC about a breach of the Hospital Play Specialists Association Code of Ethics by a registered Hospital Play Specialist will be dealt with by the HPSRC promptly and fairly under their Policy for Handling Complaints.
  • ​Where can I find information on the Transition workshops which are a requirement for HPS Registration? 
The Hospital Play Specialist Association of Aotearoa New Zealand provide the series of workshops annually. Information on the dates and venues may be found under the Professional Development section under Membership.
  • How can I make sure a specific a workshop/seminar meets the criteria for the Youth Health  requirement for Registration?

As a guide the course/workshop must have a component on youth development. If you are unsure whether a course is suitable contact the HPSRC prior to enrolment at hpsreg@gmail.com.  To assist the HPSRC make an assessment provide full details of presenter, organisation providing the PD, and information on the workshop content.
