Critical Tiriti Analysis (CTA) workshop
with Dr Heather Came
Sessions 1&2
Critical Tiriti Analysis (CTA) is a methodology co-created by Heather Came, Dominic O’Sullivan and Tim McCreanor. In its retrospective form it is a collective process to determine whether a policy/project/strategy is Te Tiriti compliant. In its prospective form it strengthens Te Tiriti alignment from the beginning of a project.
This workshop is designed to introduce CTA and strengthen Te Tiriti based practice. The workshop includes Te Tiriti revision on Te Tiriti and its application. The whakapapa of CTA is shared with learners and current scholarship in the area. This practical workshop fosters critical thinking and models collaboration as learners “learn by doing” a retrospective CTAs. The workshop concludes by exploring how to apply CTA on forthcoming work.
CTA is a decolonising method used by practitioners, scholars, policy makers and decision-makers. It is being used to assess proposals, for policy writing, accreditation / competency frameworks, curriculum review / development, and commissioning. It also continues to be used to monitor the Crown. Alumni of this workshop are invited to join a nationwide practitioner-led community of practice with opportunities for ongoing CTA tautoko.

Session 3 (attendance at sessions 1&2 required to eligible)The Advanced Critical Tiriti Analysis (CTA) Workshop offers an immersive next step into policy critique and institutional transformation. This interactive session delves into the origins of the CTA methodology, reviewing how diverse organisations are currently embedding the framework to audit and reshape their work. Participants will collaboratively strategise how to sharpen their critical application of the tool, leaving with advanced, practical insights to confidently champion Te Tiriti compliance and anti-racism praxis within their sectors.

- Devise how to strengthen Tiriti alignment in their own practice.
- Collaborate with colleagues to do a retrospective or prospective CTA.
- Introduce and revisit foundational Te Tiriti histories and social and political dynamics.
